Jennifer Lopez finally sheds baby weight thanks to vegan diet

Jennifer Lopez has attributed finally losing her baby weight – six years after giving birth to her twins Max and Emme – to the vegan diet.

"I'll be honest with you guys, since I had the babies about six years ago, I had that really stubborn eight to ten pounds on me," the star told Extra.

"People are used to seeing me be kind of thickish, but when I started eating [vegan], right away I dropped like eight to ten pounds."

Jennifer Lopez says her energy has increased after she went vegan

Thanks to the new eating regime, the On The Floor singer hasn't only got her washboard stomach back – her energy levels have also drastically increased.

"It was a real change, but more than that I felt better and people were like, 'Your energy’s better'… everything's better" the star continued.

Vegan foods such as lentils, greens, seeds and nuts contain magnesium and folate, two of the main nutrients that help boost your energy.

While magnesium breaks down glucose (sugar) into energy, folate is a natural alternative to vitamin B6 which produces more red blood cells to carry oxygen around the body.

The key is to lower the intake of foods with a high sugar and fat content and supplement them with natural sugars from fruit and foods full of fiber from a plant-based diet.
While following a strict diet is hard work, JLo has learned how to get the health benefits from the eating plan, while not following it to the letter.

"Even if you're 70 - 80 per cent vegan, it's so much better having those vegetables, greens, plant-based stuff," she says. "It's going to change your life and health."
